Fire Extinguisher Servicing in Cork

ADS Group supplies, services and certifies fire extinguishers, hose reels, fire blankets and suppression across Cork city and county to I.S. 291. Extinguishers need an annual basic service by a competent person, with extended service and replacement at set intervals by type. On Cork's industrial sites the question is less about the count and more about whether the cover suits the specific hazard in each area.

What matters for Cork buildings

Process hazards need specific media

Flammable liquids, electrical plant, metal swarf and cooking oils each need a different extinguishing medium, and the wrong one makes some fires worse rather than better. A building that passes a count and a date check can still have the wrong unit beside its highest-risk process.

Suppression systems are a separate regime

Where a plant room, server room or kitchen canopy has a fixed suppression system, it carries its own service requirements and its own interface to the fire alarm. Extinguisher servicing does not cover it, and buildings regularly assume it does.

Access is the practical failure

Extinguishers end up behind pallets, inside locked stores and in areas that were walkways when the units were sited. An extinguisher nobody can reach in ten seconds is not cover, so mounting, signage and access are checked rather than only the pressure gauge.

What the visit includes

  • Annual basic service of every extinguisher to I.S. 291, each unit labelled and logged
  • Extended service and refill at the intervals the standard sets for each type
  • Media and placement assessed against the specific hazard in each area, and reported
  • Hose reels, fire blankets and signage checked at the same visit
  • Suppression systems identified and their separate service requirement flagged
  • Certification on completion, scheduled with your alarm and emergency lighting service

Full detail on the system types, the standards and the certification process is on the Fire Fighting Equipment page, and everything else we cover in the county is on the Cork page.

Frequently asked questions

How often do fire extinguishers need servicing?
An annual basic service by a competent person under I.S. 291, plus an extended service and eventual replacement at intervals that depend on the type. The label on each unit shows where it sits in that cycle.
Does extinguisher servicing cover our kitchen suppression system?
No. A fixed suppression system is a separate regime with its own service requirement and usually its own interface to the fire alarm. We identify it and flag it rather than letting it be assumed into the extinguisher visit.
Can this be done on the same visit as the fire alarm service?
Yes, and on a maintenance contract that is normally how it is scheduled: one visit, one engineer, all three certificates.
