Emergency Lighting Testing & Certification in Cork

ADS Group tests, certifies, designs and installs emergency lighting to I.S. 3217 across Cork city and county. The standard sets a monthly functional test and an annual full-duration discharge test, normally three hours, proving every luminaire stays lit for the full period on battery alone. On Cork's production sites the escape route is rarely a simple corridor, and that is what makes the design review as important as the test.

What matters for Cork buildings

Plant rooms and production floors are not corridors

An escape route through a production area runs past machinery, changes in level and equipment that moves. Emergency lighting has to light the route people will actually take in the dark, including the point where they step down off a platform. Lighting designed for an office corridor applied to a plant floor leaves exactly those points dark.

High-bay areas need the light to reach the floor

A fitting mounted at warehouse ceiling height delivers far less light at floor level than the same fitting in an office. Coverage has to be calculated for the mounting height, and a system that passes a visual check can still be well under the required illuminance on the ground.

Testing without stopping production

A three-hour discharge leaves the building on battery. On a continuously running site that is planned: the test is staged by area so the whole facility is never on emergency supply at once, and it is scheduled around the production calendar.

What the visit includes

  • Annual full-duration discharge test, normally three hours, on every luminaire
  • Monthly functional test regime set up, with a log your own staff can maintain
  • Every fitting identified and recorded, so a failure points to a location rather than a guess
  • Escape route reviewed against the route people would actually take, including plant areas
  • Failed batteries, lamps and fittings reported in writing with a quotation for remedial work
  • Certification to I.S. 3217 on completion

Frequently asked questions

Can the annual test be staged so production is not interrupted?
Yes. On larger sites the discharge test is run area by area so the whole facility is never on battery at the same time, scheduled around the production calendar.
How often does emergency lighting need testing?
I.S. 3217 sets a monthly functional test and an annual full-duration test, normally three hours. The monthly test can be done in-house if someone is trained and the result is logged; the annual test and certification needs a competent person.
Does emergency lighting cover the production floor or just the corridors?
It covers the escape route, which in a production building usually runs through the floor itself. Changes in level, machinery and equipment along that route all affect where fittings are needed.
